I preached last Sunday in our West Congregation on ‘Shine like the Stars’, taken from Matthew 5:14-16 (You are the light of the world…..) and Philippians 2:12-16 (…in which you shine like stars in the universe).
If you’re interested you can listen here, or you can read some thoughts I blogged on this a little while ago.
If you’re a Christian, your ‘job’ is to have the light of Christ in You and let it shine into a dark world. How are you doing with that?
The three guys pictured are some friends of mine from church (calling themselves Fire Fall Down) who I went to see play at a pub in London. They are very talented musicians who have all been involved playing in our church worship teams. They believe God is calling them to use their music to reach out into the world and share the truth of the gospel. For them, it’s not just about the music or the songs. It’s about meeting other bands and people that like music, and hoping to have the opportunity to share something of God with them. There are people out there who are lost in darkness and would never come through a church doorway, but God still wants them to know His love.
In many ways they’re just starting out on the journey but I have huge respect for their heart for God and their commitment. I wish them all God’s best as they continue to step out and carry the light-giving message.
You can visit their myspace page for more information (and if you live in London then do come along to a gig – especially if you have some non-christian, music-loving friends who you can bring).
Also if you’re in London, and have no plans to meet with church, why not come along to our services in Hammersmith or Stratford and encounter some light. If you’re on the West side of town, Fire Fall Down are going to play a couple of songs in the service and surprise some of the older generations
Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. – Phil. 2:15-16 (The Message)
Ooo… sounds like it’ll be good!!
Worryingly this IS the first I’d heard of it!! But anyway, I’ll set up the other electric guitar amp as part of the AV setup, so Jon can get that sounding niiice before the sevice.
